#MylesSpeaks – The Hearts of Men

By: Myles W. Miller

“Real leadership is leaders recognizing that they serve the people that they lead.”

– Pete Hoekstra

One of the last conversations I had with my mother while she was still here on earth centered on accountability and leadership. The topic arose because a well-known pastor had experienced a very public and devastating fall from grace. The church he served was hurting. The broader community was shaken. Trust had been fractured.

I remember saying to my mother that I could not understand why people were being so harsh and judgmental. After all, I reasoned, he was still a man. Fallible. Human. No different from the rest of us.

She did not hesitate.

“No,” she said firmly. “The moment that man accepted the responsibility to lead, the moment he accepted the assignment to be set apart by God, he also accepted the role of being a role model. And if he fails, we are all affected.”

Her words stopped me.

In that instant, I realized she was not only talking about a pastor. She was talking about leadership itself.

Anyone who steps into a position of authority, visibility, or influence steps into a higher calling and a higher level of accountability. Leadership is not just about titles or platforms. It is about trust. It is about being a living example of what is possible and a visible testimony of what God can do through a willing and disciplined participant.

She wanted me to understand something deeply and permanently. Whether my path led me into ministry, business, politics, academia, or any arena where influence lives, I would be held to a different standard. Not because I was better than others, but because leadership demands more. That expectation is not unfair. It is the very hallmark of leadership.

That lesson has stayed with me.

And it is impossible not to think about it in light of the circumstances unfolding at my alma mater, the University of Michigan.

I will not sugarcoat my disappointment in Coach Moore. The deception, the lack of discipline, and the ripple effects of his actions have caused harm that is deep and, in many ways, irreversible. Opportunities like becoming the Head Football Coach at the University of Michigan do not come lightly. They carry enormous responsibility, not only to win games, but to shape lives.

Such a role carries social and cultural weight that extends far beyond football.

Young men and their families place immense trust in a leader like that, believing he will help develop them into strong, disciplined, honorable men, not just elite athletes. Staff members depend on that leader for stability, integrity, and the advancement of their careers. Families depend on that leadership for livelihoods, security, and direction.

When a leader falls, the impact does not stop at the individual.

Coach Moore’s fall affects his household, his players, his staff, the university, and the broader community that believed in him. It damages trust. It creates disillusionment. It forces people to question the systems and values they once assumed were solid.

This is the weight of leadership.

Leadership is not merely about opportunity. It is about stewardship. It is about understanding that every decision, every shortcut, and every compromise carries consequences far beyond oneself. Leaders do not get the luxury of separating their private actions from their public responsibilities. Influence erases that boundary.

My mother understood that.

And now, years later, I understand it more clearly than ever.

Leadership is a sacred trust. It is not something to be taken lightly, pursued casually, or maintained carelessly. It demands character when no one is watching, discipline when shortcuts are tempting, and humility when success arrives.

Because when leaders rise, many rise with them.

And when leaders fall, they never fall alone.

#MylesSpeaks —🛡️ Unbreakable Resolve: Why No Weapon Formed Against Us Can Prosper

By: Myles W. Miller

“Don’t Ever Give Up, Don’t Ever Quit on Your Dreams!” +Myles

“Although we may be challenged by a defeated foe that still happens to be a worthy adversary, I AM thankful that no weapon formed against us can prosper! It is my prayer that no one can usurp our Divine Authority, bastardize our Divine Assignment, nor prostitute our Divine Assets!” +Myles

In life, we often find ourselves in a peculiar, challenging space. We stand triumphant over a battle. We’ve faced the difficulty, learned the lesson, and emerged victorious. Yet, the defeated foe doesn’t always vanish. It lingers, sometimes surprisingly, still acting as a worthy adversary.

This lingering shadow could be a past mistake that keeps trying to define us, an old habit that claws for a foothold, or an external force determined to test our resolve. This is the challenge. This is the crucible.

But this is also where your unbreakable resolve and the power of the my prayer for us shining through.

The Power of Divine Assurance

Our leading quote is a magnificent declaration of faith and self-assurance: “Although we may be challenged by a defeated foe that still happens to be a worthy adversary, I AM thankful that no weapon formed against us can prosper!”

This is not a statement of blind optimism; it’s a testament to belief in God, a higher, guiding force. It’s the core assurance that even when the opponent is strong, tenacious, and seems to constantly reappear, the ultimate outcome is secured. The challenge may be real, but the victory is guaranteed because no strategy or tool designed to cause failure can ultimately succeed against a foundation rooted in Divine Authority.

Guarding the Sacred Trust

The second part of your quote moves from general assurance to specific, fervent prayers for protection over what is most sacred: our purpose and our gifts.

1. Guarding Your Divine Authority

Your Authority is your unique identity, the rightful place you hold in the world, and the power you have been given to execute your purpose.

“It is my prayer that no one can usurp our Divine Authority…”

To usurp means to wrongfully take control. We pray that no one, no person, no fear, no self-doubt, and no outside influence can steal the confidence and power of who we are meant to be and what we are meant to do. This is a prayer for sovereignty over your own life and destiny.

2. Protecting Your Divine Assignment

Your Assignment is your mission, your calling, the unique work that only you can do.

“…bastardize our Divine Assignment…”

To bastardize means to corrupt, diminish, or render illegitimate. We must guard our mission fiercely so that it is not diluted, polluted, or twisted into something it was never meant to be. Our Assignment is meant to be pure, impactful, and authentic and we pray to keep it that way, resisting the pressure to compromise its core truth for temporary gain or acceptance.

3. Preserving Your Divine Assets

Your Assets are your gifts, talents, resources, and everything you have been blessed with to fulfill your Assignment.

“…nor prostitute our Divine Assets!”

To prostitute means to misuse or exploit a valuable thing for a trivial or unworthy purpose. We pray for the integrity to use our gifts (our intelligence, empathy, financial resources, network, time) only in alignment with our highest calling, refusing the temptation to waste them on pursuits that ultimately detract from our true purpose.

🙏 Your Call to Steadfastness

Embrace this powerful declaration today. Be thankful for the protection that surrounds you. Know that the fight is real, and the adversary is worthy, but your Authority is stronger.

Let this prayer be a constant reminder to stay focused, pure, and intentional. When you protect your Authority, Assignment, and Assets, you make a daily commitment to your truest self. And in that commitment, you solidify the truth: No weapon formed against you can prosper.

What part of your “Divine Authority, Assignment, or Assets” feels most challenged in your life right now?

#MylesSpeaks – What If?

The law of flying was not discovered by the contemplation of things staying on the ground.

-Dr. Wayne Dyer

What if I never get a Tedx stage? Does that mean I haven’t been a good speaker, although I have delivered speeches on college campuses, at churches and governmental meetings?

What if I never get win awards and get acknowledged for my efforts in the coaching and training industry? Does that mean that I was of no use to my former and future clients, although I walked them through new heights of achievement?

What if my tenure in politics and government never yields an elected office? Does that mean that all of the work I did to build bridges between constituents and their government was for naught?

What if my academic degrees never help me garner the career success that I’ve passionately sought since I was a kid?

How bout this, as I approach another birthday this weekend, I finally give myself the peace to put my best foot forward and not worry about the what ifs! Today, I’m going to allow God to manifest love, abundance, and prosperity through me and employ my energy to make beautiful things come to life!

A Letter to My Young Son

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

  – Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)

Hello Little Myles,

Today is September 10, 2017 and it marks exactly 6 months since your 1st Birthday and exactly 6 months until your 2nd Birthday. A lot has happened since you have turned 1. Our family has had a series of ups and downs, twists and turns, and highs and lows. Through it all, as a whole, we have made it through many storms.

In one of our biggest trials, we lost your grandfather 2 days after my 39th Birthday. It was a difficult moment, but one thing is for certain, he loved our family deeply and expressed it with everything he had left in his tank. When we would speak on the phone, from the time I told him that you were on the way to us from the Spirit realm, even until the last conversation we ever had, he always talked about how he could not wait to see you person. Unfortunately, that never happened. Although I sent him several pictures and would let him say hello to you on the phone, I did not physically get you there to see him in Pennsylvania. That has been the most disappointing part of this whole process.

My Prince, I have learned a very valuable lesson from this moment that I will now teach to you. Life is not a game like football or baseball. It is not a video game that will allow you to get a do over if you make a mistake. Life will require that you make every move that you take count. You will have golden opportunities to be great and leave an indelible mark on this world, but you cannot hesitate, delay, or procrastinate. God has blessed you with the very best genes from your mom and I and the world is truly yours for the taking.

Son, even with that statement, I wish that I could tell you that life would always be a bed of roses, but I’m not going to lie to you. Life can and will be challenging. You will experience some tough time, heartaches, and have some setbacks. But it’s ok, it’s part of the journey that will reveal your destiny to you. You’ll find that what irritates you most, is probably what you’ve been sent to this earth to solve. Don’t worry. Young Myles, you are created from greatness to operate in excellence. You have every resource that you can possibly imagine to do everything you could possibly imagine to do. Your siblings are going to be there for you. However, you have no room to be lazy or complacent because nothing in this lifetime will be given to you. You’re going to have to trust God, move quickly, remain focused, supply the required effort, and always finish strong!

In your life journey my Son, I decree and declare that you will be free of the struggles that in many instances subdued the free-flowing greatness of myself, your mom, and our ancestors. I decree and declare that at every challenge, you’ll stand tall in handling it and that you will be the example of God’s grace, favor, and blessings. I decree and declare that you will meet with favor in all your endeavors and that success will come free and clear without strings attached. I decree and declare that you shall guard your heart with all diligence because from it comes the issues of life. I decree and declare that you will meet, love, and marry a Dynamic young lady in the due season that will love you and your Divine assignment. I decree and declare that your dreams will be free from limitations and that you’ll be able to operate your gift with great command. I decree and declare that you when your natural nemesis shows up, that you’ll be fully equipped to deal with it handily with grace and swagger! Ultimately, I decree and declare that everything you touch abundantly prospers beyond measure and that lack of any kind is never known in your domain!

Baby Boy, you got this. Always know and remember, “The Life of YOUR DREAMS is WONDERFUL and YOU DESERVE IT!”™

Love you very much,

Your Dad
